But as time, and the number of new pages increased, the sheer quantity was slowing down loading, and even preventing publication in some instances. On the pages which had previously contained all these individual links, there should now be a single link to this page.

BACK TO THE BEGINNING.........
Following the meeting of local worthies held at Abbotts Hill in 1846, and the proposal to build a new church for Leverstock Green, it took 3 years for the proposal to become reality. Eventually in August 1849 The Church of Holy Trinity was finally completed after a great many problems and delays. The committee had continuously changed its mind over minor details contributing in the delay to its completion. The oak pulpit was donated by John Dickinson at a cost of £30, the font, also a gift from John Dickinson cost £10. The original High Altar in Oak cost £16.
On 30th October 1849 Holy Trinity Church was dedicated by the Bishop of Rochester, being in his diocese. Over the following 169 years, a variety of events were held to mark the various anniversaries.
In 1949 A Concert was put on in church to mark the occasion, and a Centenary Booklet was commissioned. In addition a special Centenary gift-day was set up for parishioners and other interested parties to donate specific items, and of course money. (Click the box below to find out more.)
About a year before the date of the 170th anniversary, the PCC decided once again to mark the event with a Flower Festival. The members of the Festival Committee worked through the decades, listing anything that they could come up with initially, then chose
1 -things relating to the church (building, organ etc)
2 - things local to Leverstock Green ( sports, war memorial, Buncefield etc.)
3 - items of national importance ( railways, nursing school, royalty etc.)
To help pay for the flowers and other items needed for the festival, members of the congregation, including those friends who had moved away from the village, other local residents, councilors and businesses were asked if they could contribute. I was also asked if I could contribute information, so I made sure the Church "back-up hard-drive" had all my documents and photographs relating to the church and the village since 1849.
Some arrangements were sponsored by other local churches and groups and some other non-specific donations which covered the other costs were also made. Below are the various categories depicted Unfortunately, none of those of us whose photographs I am using took close-up images of all of the cards accompanying the displays. and it is not always easy to seperate them out, whereas others, such as the Coronation, are simpler to sort together. I have therefore decided to list all the categories immediatly below so that everyone gets the credit they deserve., I will then add the the occasional picture if I can be sure I have it in the correct category. I will then finally add some galleries of pictures taken by the individual photographers. (Probably with a link to a seperate page for ease of downloading.)
