THE QUEEN'S
GOLDEN JUBILEE
IN LEVERSTOCK GREEN, 2002    A: GALA DINNER

LGVA, along with the rest of the nation celebrated the Queen's Golden Jubilee in style with not one but two events.

The first, on Friday 31st May 2002, was a Gala Charity Dinner held at Shendish.  For the Jubilee Picnic on June 3rd click here.
Over 100 attended the dinner with guests of honour Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant for Hertfordshire Simon Bowes Lyon & Mrs Bowes Lyon.   Other distinguished guests included the Rt. Hon. Paul Boeteng, Chief Secretary to the Treasury & Mrs Janet Boeteng; The Mayor of Dacorum, Cllr Mrs Catherine Appleby; Dame Jocelyn Barrow; the Chief Constable of Hertfordshire & Dr. Ros Taylor.  Two charities benefited from this dinner: Plan International UK and The Hospice of St. Francis.  It is estimated over £2,000 was raised as a result of the Gala evening and this will be split between the two charities. Giant Cheques for £900+ each were presented by The Lord Lieutenant to Mrs Janet Boeteng on behalf of Plan International UK, and by the Mayor of Dacorum to Dr. Ros Taylor on behalf of the Hospice of St. Francis.

LGVA 's Chairman Barbara Chapman wishes to thank the LGVA working party headed by Colin & Ann Gage for organizing the evening; Linda Haye for acting as Host;  Roger Kiesa for the cabaret; Simon Pusey for entertaining us with his piano music;  & Maureen Bellett for leading us in the National Anthem; Stephen Austin for designing and producing the invitations & menus, and Sheila Knight in the office for sending out all the letters etc.  We would also like to thank the management and catering staff at Shendish Manor for all they did to make the evening such a success, and to thank Shendish, Mercedes-Benz Direct, Cameron House Resort Ownership, Sopwell House Hotel, CML Kitchens Apsley, a local china shop (anon), Audrey Armstrong & an anonymous donor, for their generous sponsorship of the raffle prizes, reception drinks & principle photography.  Finally LGVA wishes to  thank all those of you who attended the dinner, or sent in a donation, so helping to raise such a superb sum for the two worthy charities.
